What we can do ... The Missouri Sedimentation Action Coalition supports managing the Missouri River dams under the life cycle approach rather than a design life basis. A design life analysis envisions decommissioning the dams at the end of their design life period. Life cycle approach envisions doing what is necessary to extend the life of the dam as far into the future as possible. We believe that technology exists to fix this problem. It is a political issue - Congress must act to start and continue the correction process. The dams and reservoirs are too valuable to lose to sediment. They must be preserved. MSAC presents its case to the US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) on a regular basis, especially during times of public comment such as the annual operating plan process. Many times these public meetings do not draw many people. However, MSAC represents thousands of people through memberships with cities, counties, states, water development districts and rural water systems, organizations, businesses and individuals. Their contributions keep MSAC's voice heard, through public comments and other educational activities, including this Web site, newsletters and presentations. MSAC works cooperatively with various agencies toward sediment management throughout the Missouri River reservoir system. We invite you to join this coalition. Your contribution helps keep sedimentation heard in an arena full of Missouri River issues. Follow this link to a printable Membership Form. Please contact Sandra Korkow with any questions at this email: sandrak@gwtc.net or by phone 605-369-2745. We appreciate your interest in this important issue.
