uNovember 2003: Spring-Bull Creek Watershed Project - Reduces Load by 1,386 Tons
By Les Labahn, project coordinator Randall RC&D, Lake Andes, SD
The Spring-Bull Creek Watershed District is located in southeast Charles Mix, County, South Dakota, and was organized under SD Code of Law to provide local management of natural resources within this 27,000 acre watershed.

US Public Law 566 Program funding helped to construct 3 large flood control structures and establish at least 75 percent of the land area adequately treated.  The present board is the third generation of local leadership successfully sustaining the natural resource base.

In 1966, USDA Soil Conservation Service calculated more than 1,400 tons per year of sediment was being delivered from Spring-Bull Creek Watershed directly to the Missouri River.  Today, less than 14 tons per year of sediment leaves this watershed.
